21.09.2017 - ICF Chapter Meeting Basel

Exploring Ethics in Coaching

Speaker: Ivo Wallimann-Helmer, Dr. phil., Director of the Program „Advanced Studies in Applied Ethics“, University of Zurich

Description and objectives

Ethical principles are essential for the coaching profession. Decision making guided by and based on ethical foundations results in higher performance and positive relationships at the workplace as well as in our daily lives. To emphasize and demonstrate the importance of ethics, ICF added the ethics component to credential renewal requirements. Beginning of 2016 ICF Credential-holders are required to demonstrate completion of at least three (3) Continuing Coach Education (CCE) units in the area of coaching ethics. To offer our members and guests an opportunity to dive deep into ethics, the ICF Basel Chapter organizes a workshop „Ethics in Coaching”.

We have the honor to welcome our guest speaker, Ivo Wallimann-Helmer, Dr. phil., a professional ethicist and director of the program „Advanced Studies in Applied Ethics“ at the University of Zurich.

The Workshop will:

  • touch upon core principles in ethics from different concepts including Business Ethics, Utilitarianism, Deontology, Virtue Ethics ;
  • introduce the “Ethical Decisions-Making in Five Steps“-tool that enables you to identify and analyze ethical challenges;
  • Demonstrate how the first four steps of the tool above can be applied for coaching practice.

At the end of the workshop you will get an opportunity to share your insights with the group during a take-away round.

We kindly ask you to read the ICF code of Ethics in advance.
